Defending champions Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English School (Fort) tightened their grip on the match against Al-Barkaat Malik Muhammad English School (Kurla) despite a strong fight back from the latter on Day Two of the 129th Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association inter-school Harris Shield final at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

Anjuman, who resumed the second day of the three-day clash at 109-1, posted a formidable total of 268 for 9 from their quota of 80 overs. The Fort outfit’s innings was anchored by Yuvraj Bhingare, who scored 73. He found able support from Laxman Prasad Vishwakarma (55) and Aarav Yadav (52).

For Al-Barkaat, the standout performer with the ball was off-spinner Abrar Shaikh (7-80). After being bundled out for 135 in their first innings, Al Barkaat showed far greater resolve this time around, compiling a score of 212-3 in 36 overs by stumps — teams can only bowl 40 overs in the second innings.

Leading the charge was Arhaan Patel, who produced a superb 94 not out. He received excellent support from Pradyankur Bhalerao (50 not out). Anjuman skipper Yuvan Sharma picked up two wickets (2-60) while Shakir Shaikh got the other wicket (1-24).
