Bravish Shetty smashes 252* v Young Comrade CC

DYPSA’s Bravish Shetty after his unbeaten 252 on Saturday

It was a run fest at the DY Patil Sports Academy [DYPSA] ground in Navi Mumbai as 944 runs were scored in just 87.4 overs on Saturday. Thanks to DYPSA opener Bravish Shetty’s unbeaten 252, the hosts thrashed Young Comrade CC by 194 runs in the Madhav Mantri Centenary One-Day League.

Put in to bat, DYPSA scored a mammoth 569-3 in 43 overs. Bravish’s 134-ball knock was laced with 21 sixes and 16 fours. The right-hander put on 120 in an opening stand with Srujan Athawale (58, 9x4). Shubham Ranjane and Hardik Tamore too contributed, scoring 73 and 65 respectively. The hosts also accumulated 88 runs for two overs short as well as 30 extras.

‘It’s my best knock’

“This is my best knock; you can’t get better than this. The bowling attack was decent. I scored 80 [v Parel SC] and got a duck [v Police Gymkhana] in the previous two games. Because of COVID-19 we are playing less matches and it’s been a long time so I was looking forward to scoring a hundred,” Bravish, 34, who has represented Mumbai and Tripura in first-class cricket, told Sunday mid-day.

Bravish was lucky to get a double hundred. At around 150, the umpire raised his finger after he was caught by Anish Chaudhery at cover off pacer Yash Panchal (1-85). But the Young Comrade player displayed his sportsmanship and told the umpire that it was not a clean catch.

“It’s a big individual performance, especially 250 in a one-day game which hardly anyone gets and I think it should be noticed. I hope this innings gets me into the Mumbai probables for the Vijay Hazare Trophy,” Bravish added.

A tough task

Young Comrade skipper Shameet Shetty lavished praise on Bravish: “It was a flat wicket but he [Bravish] batted really well. It was a superb innings. We were in the game till 25 overs. But when we lost wickets, it was a tough task,” Shameet remarked.

In reply, Young Comrade CC were bowled out for 375 in 44.4 overs. Opener Chaudhery slammed an 80-ball 151 (14x4, 12x6) and Yogesh Dongare got 53 off 47 balls. For DYPSA, medium pacer Aquib Kureshi claimed 4-71.
