Unlike bowlers, this time batsmen dominated the proceedings during the Dr HD Kanga Cricket League games on Sunday. This would have been the 13th round across Divisions ‘A’ and ‘B’, but given the extended rains, it was just the third. As there is only a remote possibility of promotions and relegations this season, most players utilised the opportunity to hone their individual skills.

Ramanpreet Singh Ghuman (100 not out for Karnatak SA v New Hind SA), Jayesh Pokhare (103 for Shivaji Park Gymkhana v Cricket Club of  India), Prasad Pawar (111 for Parkophene Cricketers v Regal CC) were some of the top-order batsmen, who cashed in on the opportunity and registered three-figure marks in the ‘A’ division.

Thakur, Shaikh shine

India U-19 cricketer Divyaansh Saxena (114 for Dadar Union v United Cricketers) scored an unbeaten ton in Division ‘B’, while Roneet Thakur (100 for New Hindu CC v Pandurangwadi CC) and Adil Shaikh (124 for Amar CC v SKP Athletic Club) had tons in Divisions ‘C’ and ‘D’ respectively.

However, Payyade SC’s bowlers had their say, bundling out Mumbai Police Gymkhana for just 63 in their own backyard. For Payyade SC, left-arm spinner Musheer Khan, pacers Atif Attarwala and Badre Alam claimed three wickets each. In reply, Japjeet Randhawa (93) and Bhupen Lalwani (92) helped Payyade declare their innings at 200-3.

At Cross Maidan, put into bat, Ghuman’s century and a well-made 43 by Vighnesh Solanki helped KSA post 234-9 declared against New Hind. Off-spinner Akshay Jambhekar claimed 6-64. In reply, New Hind scored 21-2.

Yash Dicholkar claims five

At Parsee Gymkhana, riding on good performances by left-arm spinner Yash Dicholkar (5-21) and pacer Siddharth Raut (3-28), the hosts outclassed Sind SC. Sind were bowled out for 112. In reply, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (67 not out) and Aakarshit Gomel (43) helped Parsee declare the innings at 131-1.

In a Division ‘B’ game on their home pitch at Cross Maidan, United Cricketers, who elected to bowl first, couldn’t stop Dadar Union’s Saxena from scoring an unbeaten ton, laced with 11 fours. Siddhant Singh’s 56 added to United’s woes as Dadar Union posted 266-6 declared. In reply, United Cricketers struggled against spinners Khizar Dafedar (6-35) Sangram Bhalekar (3-26) as they were bowled out for 95.
