Give Parvez Rasool chance to prove himself: Omar Abdullah urges BCCI

Cricket fans in the valley are disappointed that all-rounder Parvez Rasool has still not made his debut for India against Zimbabwe in the ongoing ODI series.

And that disappointment was voiced by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has urged the BCCI to give a chance to all-rounder in the final limited overs match against Zimbabwe.

"Come on BCCI give the young man (Rasool) a chance to prove himself," Omar tweeted.

Will Parvez Rasool get a look-in in the fifth ODI?

The Chief Minister, an avid cricket lover, is disappointed that the cricketer has not been given a game even though India has taken an unassailable lead in five-match ODI series.

"Really disappointed that Parvez Rasool hasn't been given a game in Zimbabwe," he said.

Rasool is the only cricketer along with Mumbai’s Ajinkya Rahane who have warming the bench in Zimbabwe till date.

India having already won the five match series, it was believed that Rasool along with Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohit Sharma would be getting to make their debuts in the 4th ODI. Although Pujara and Sharma found a place in the playing XI, Rasool was left out.

There was speculation that Rasool, who is the first cricketer from troubled Jammu and Kashmir to be in the Indian team, would play in place of Ravindra Jadeja. But the off-spinner missed out since the track was conceived to be more conducive for seamers.

Rasool’s family has been eagerly awaiting his international debut. “There was a lot of excitement when Rasool played in the IPL-VI (for Pune Warriors India). A lot of people gathered on the streets to watch him play on TV. We are hopeful of him getting the India cap soon. He’s an inspiration for Kashmiri youths,” elder brother Asif had earlier told a news agency.
