In the first ODI match against Team India, Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

The match also marked India's traditional opening batsman, Rohit Sharma's 500th international appearance for the "Men in Blue". Along with Rohit, it will also be the first appearance of Virat Kohli in the Indian blue since the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph on March 9 in Dubai. All eyes will be set on the star duo as they make a return to international cricket.

Additionally, Nitish Kumar Reddy has received the debut cap in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) from Rohit.

After winning the toss, the hosts' skipper Marsh said that the wicket looks pretty good and considering the likes of young players, the side will bowl first in the series opener against the "Men in Blue"

"We are going to bowl first. Looks like a pretty good wicket. Hopefully it's fast. It's always a huge honour to lead your country. Hope we get off to a good start. The morale is great. We have some good young players. Seven batters, one wicketkeeper and four bowlers," Australia skipper Marsh said.

While Australia will be without their captain, Pat Cummins, as he misses out due to injury, the presence of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa still offers plenty of experience

Shubman Gill, who is leading Team India for the first time in the 50-over format, said that he would have also bowled first.

"We would have bowled first as well. It's all about getting mentally ready. We are in a good mental place. The practice sessions help. We have a great combination. Nitish Reddy makes his debut, we are going with three fast bowlers and three all-rounders," said Gill.
