Team India's lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah didn't feature in the playing XI for the fifth and final Test match against England.
The pacer was advised by the BCCI's medical team not to play consecutive Test matches, considering his workload management.
Speaking to the reporters after Day 1 play, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said that the management felt right to honour the premier pacer's decision.
"It's quite a complex issue around Bumrah, you know, we obviously want to wheel him in, but we also want to respect where his body's at, and on the basis of that, we just felt that it wasn't worth including him in the squad," said Doeschate.
"He has bowled a large number of overs, I know it doesn't always seem like that because he's only played three Tests and he only bowled in one innings in Manchester. But if you look at the loads, he's bowled a lot of overs, and like he did say coming into the tour, he was going to be available for three games, and we just felt it was right to honour that call," added the coach.
In Bumrah's absence, Team India entered the third Test match with four changes. Prasidh Krishna, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel and Akash Deep have been included in the team.
Jurel came in as a replacement for swashbuckling batsman Rishabh Pant. The left-hander earlier sustained an injury in the previous Test match. Jurel departed after scoring 19 runs off 40 deliveries, including two boundaries.
On the other hand, Karun made the most of the opportunity provided as he scored an unbeaten 52 runs on Day 1. Facing 98 balls, he also smashed seven boundaries.
Along with Nair, Washington Sundar will resume Day 2 with the score of 204 runs for the loss of six wickets. Sundar seems to be strong at the crease as he has scored 19 runs in 45 balls, with the help of two boundaries.
The ongoing Test match is crucial from India's perspective as they will look to register a win, with an attempt to draw the series.
