On Day 4 of the second Test match against Team India, South Africa declared at the score of 260 runs for the loss of five wickets.

The declaration came after the Proteas secured a lead of 548 runs against Team India at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.

Tristan Stubbs' knock was the highlight of South Africa's innings. Facing 180 balls, he smashed 94 runs, which were laced with nine boundaries and a maximum.

Earlier, South Africa's opening duo, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, registered scores of 35 and 29 runs, respectively. Facing 64 balls, Rickelton departed after smashing four boundaries, whereas Markram registered three boundaries, playing 84 balls.

With this, they scripted history by becoming the first opening pair for South Africa in 17 years to stitch a 50-run stand in both innings during a Test match in India.

Now, they have joined the pairs of Herschelle Gibbs and Gary Kirsten (90 and 51 runs, respectively, during the 2000 Mumbai Test), Graeme Smith and Andrew Hall (61 and 67 runs, respectively, in the 2004 Kanpur Test), and Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie (132 runs and 53 runs, respectively, at Chennai in 2008).

Skipper Temba Bavuma returned to the pavilion after scoring three runs in 11 balls, while Tony de Zorzi missed his well-deserved half-century by just one run. He scored 49 runs in 68 balls, including four boundaries and a maximum.

Wiaan Mulder stayed unbeaten on 35 runs in 69 balls. His knock included five boundaries.

Ravindra Jadeja was the most successful bowler for Team India. Bowling 28.3 overs, he conceded 62 runs and claimed four wickets. Other than Jadeja, Washington Sundar bagged a wicket, leaking 67 runs in 22 overs.

Lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy went wicketless in South Africa's second innings. Bumrah, in his spell of six overs, conceded 22 runs, whereas Siraj gave away 19 runs in five overs. Yadav was smashed for 48 runs in 12 overs, while Reddy conceded 24 runs in four overs. Jaiswal bowled just one over in which he conceded nine runs.
