Mumbaikar's Rahane, Tambe rock for RR!

Mumbai boys Ajinkya Rahane and Pravin Tamble were instrumental in taking Rajasthan Royals into the final of the Champions League Twenty20 last night.

Rajasthan opener Rahane has been in brilliant form in the CLT20 and he ensured he made the most of it against Chennai in the first semi-final at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium yesterday. Rahane hit 70 as Rajasthan posted 159-8.

What a blast
The right-hander blasted six fours and two sixes in his 56-ball stay and shared a 59-run partnership in 39 balls with Shane Watson (32) for the fourth wicket to lay the foundation for Rajasthan’s innings.u00a0In reply, CSK scored 145-8 off their 20 overs.

Rahane anchored the Royals innings but the hosts lost three wickets in the last over to settle within the 160-mark. Rajasthan lost their captain Rahul Dravid early once again when he was dismissed by Chris Morris in the third over. In the next over, Kevon Cooper too was sent back to the hut when Mohit Sharma had the batsman caught by S Badrinath at extra cover to reduce the Royals to 29 for 2. Rahane took the onus on himself and along with Sanju Samson (11) kept the scoreboard ticking. The duo took the hosts over the 50-mark. However, Rahane lost this third partner in the ninth over when Jason Holder fot an edge from Samson.

Rahane’s teammate Tambe then shone with the ball.u00a0The 41-year-old leg-spinner accounted for the three crucial Chennai wickets of Suresh Raina (29), S Badrinath (8) and Dwayne Bravo (3) giving away a miserly 10 runs off his four overs. He was rightly awarded the Man of the match.

The spinner expressed his gratitude for captain Dravid at the post-match presentation. “I’m very thankful to Rahulbhai for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to bowl often in this tournament,” he said.

Brief score: Rajasthan Royals 159-8 in 20 overs (Ajinkya Rahane 70; Darren Bravo 3/26) beat Chennai Super Kings 145-8 in 20 overs (R Ashwin 46; Pravin Tambe 3-10) by 14 runs
