Manchester:âu00c2u0080u00c2u0088Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho issued thinly veiled criticism of England's Football Association (FA)âu00c2u0080u00c2u0088over the Wayne Rooney drinking controversy.

Rooney, 31, apologised this week after being pictured looking the worst as he mingled with guests during a late-night wedding party at the England team hotel last weekend.

British press reports claim Mourinho was angry with the FA for not supervising Rooney more closely and he suggested the striker could have been looked after more carefully.

"I believe when a player goes to the national team, he belongs to the national team. I learnt as a kid that if someone lends me a pencil, I have to take even better care than if it was mine," Jose said.
