Kuala Lumpur: The German ambassador to Malaysia Holger Michael yesterday described a lawmaker-s tweet praising Adolf Hitler after Germany crushed Brazil in the World Cup as "unacceptable".

Bung Mokhtar Radin, a 55-year-old MP with the ruling United Malays National Organisation led by Prime Minister Najib Razak, congratulated Germany with a tweet saying "Well done ... Bravo ... Long Live Hitler".

In a response to the politician-s tweet, the German ambassador said in a statement: "We strongly reject the unacceptable allusion to the fascist regime of Adolf Hitler".
Germany romped home to a record breaking 7-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-final. Despite coming under criticism for his "Hitler" tweet, Bung Mokhtar defended his action, saying it was done for fun.
