Everton striker Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen has asked him to seek sympathetic leave from his club so that the family can get away from the media focus in England to sort out their marital problems.

Rooney was arrested for drinking and driving in Cheshire recently along with a party girl, Laura Simpson, who later claimed the couple kissed and would have also gone on to sleep together had he not been caught by the cops. This happened while a pregnant Coleen was away on holiday in Majorca.

According to British tabloids, a furious Coleen confronted Rooney over the incident and wants to sort things out once and for all for the sake of their three young sons and unborn child. According to The Sun, a friend said: "Coleen wants them to get away as a family. She thinks it's important to get away from the area and try and spend some time together — him, her and the kids.

"She's asked him to speak to boss Ronald Koeman about 'sympathetic' leave but there's another international break only next month, so he might have to wait until then."
