The Kapurthala after having squandered a 2-0 first half lead, found themselves in arrears, trailing 2-3 with just a few minutes remaining. But, during the final moments they came up with a last ditch effort and earned a crucial penalty corner seconds before the final whistle. This was followed by three more short corner in succession and they found success with the fourth one when Gurwinder's hit took a deflection of a defenders stick and trickled into the goal.
This proved to be a lifeline for the Punjab side and they did not let the opportunity slip off as they held their nerves in the penalty strokes duel to emerge winners.
