The decision by the Board for Control of Cricket in India not to send the cricket team for Asian Games in China was widely criticised in the media and the sporting circles.u00a0However former cricketers stood by the Board terming the decision 'a fair call'.

The reason sighted by the BCCI was it's prior commitment of the tour of New Zealand, which clashes with the dates of the Asian Games in November later this year.

There were suggestions from certain factions that the BCCI could send a second string side to the Asian Games. Former India cricketers who begged to differ dismissed these suggestions outright.

Fair call
Former Test batsman, Madal Lal, wasn't too impresses by this suggestion, said, "I don't think sending a second string side is an option because then there will be another hue cry that why the top players don't feature in the side. So, it's a fair call by the BCCI"

Manoj Prabhakar echoed Lal's view as he said: "I think if we are sending a team in the Asia Cup we need to send our best side. There is no point going there with a second string side and cutting a sorry figure."

42 other disciplines
Madan Lal also felt that there was no need for the BCCI to field a team for the Asian Games as it would take the spotlight off the other games. He also observed that there were 42 other disciplines from where medals could be won for the country.
