After Diego Maradona and 2010 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner Diego Forlan, it is now time to witness German football giants Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga champions will travel to Kolkata to play a charity match against East Bengal on October 17. This is their second visit to the city. Bayern last came here in 2008 for a friendly against Mohun Bagan. Around one lakh people are expected to grace the Salt Lake stadium on the day.
The proceeds of the match will go towards development of street children. Bayern is also expected to open a football academy for the street children.
Kaushik Mullick, the man behind this initiative, told MiD DAY yesterday: "They (Bayern) are coming here for a social cause. Former player Lothar Matthaus and other current stars from the team are expected."u00a0 Former Bayern legend Karl Heinz Rummenigge sent a message to the organisers saying: "Kolkata is a football-loving city which I have visited. I appreciate that my teammates are going to play for a very noble cause."
