Even as the Commonwealth Games is mired in a spate of controversies, some of the country's leading sportspersons, including Abhinav Bindra and Saina Nehwal, are all set to promote the multi-discipline extravaganza in the country's capital later this month.

Beijing Olympic rifle shooting gold medallist Bindra, bronze medal-winning boxer Vijender Singh and world no. 2 woman shuttler Saina would take part in the 'Go for Gold' campaign on August 14 to mark the 50-day countdown to the October 3-14 event.

The 50-day countdown will also provide a sneak preview of the CWG anthem composed by Oscar-winning music maestro A R Rahman, a media release said today.

Bindra, Vijender and Saina, this year's 'Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna' award recipient, would visit various residential localities around Delhi, eliciting support for the Games from the capital's residents, the release said.

Other star athletes who have been appointed brand ambassadors for the Games are Beijing Olympic bronze medal-winning wrestler Sushil Kumar, Commonwealth's ace pistol shooter Samaresh Jung and four-time world champion woman boxer M C Mary Kom.

These elite athletes will travel around the city in two floats across Delhi, which will be flagged off from the CWG Organising Committee's headquarters opposite Jantar Mantar in the morning.

It will traverse through the interior and far-flung areas of Delhi, the release added.
