Eighty six-year-old Swamiji, showed his sporting side when he took the field despite recuperating from a hip replacement surgery he underwent in April last year.
Swamiji even scalped Bombay Gymkhana captain Shailesh Daga in their five-wicket loss to the home side. This is the off-spinner’s third match after surgery.
He had scalped nine wickets against players less than half his age.
In Saturday’s match, Vedanta Foundation scored 110-8 in 25 overs. Bombay Gymkhana took just 16.2 overs to reach the target with Burzin Dubash scoring an unbeaten 44, while skipper Daga scored 45.
Love for the game
Doctors had warned Swamiji against taking the field, but it was his sheer resilience and love for the game that got the octogenarian to the field. u00a0“I cannot cross my legs and sit because of the hip surgery. But that doesn’t stop me from playing cricket,” he said.
His doctor Jal Mistry said, “At 86, normal people who have had hip surgery would hold a walking stick in their hands instead of a cricket bat. He is truly a living miracle for us doctors.”u00a0
