The Bihar man's dreams of competing as an able athlete came true on Saturday. He not only took part, but won four medals at the two-day 73rd Annual Tata Athletics meet at University Stadium, Marine Lines yesterday.

The 26-year-old Bose won bronze in 1500-metre race clocking 04:32:08s, silver medals in 4x400 metres relay, 800-metre (clocking 2.08.02) and 5000-metre with a timing of 17:43:06s.

Poor background
Coming from a poor background, Bose always aspired to make name in the field of athletics. He found solace in his current coach Satnam Singh, who he has been training with, to achieve his goals.

His determination grew stronger after he lost his mother at an early age after which Sunny switched base from Patna to Jamshedpur, where his father got employed as a helper in a temple.u00a0

"Right from childhood, I was never treated normally as people used to always tease me for being handicapped. From the moment I started running (at the age of 16), I always wanted to be the best athlete and also wanted to earn respect.

"Whenever I competed, people looked at me as if I was having a bit of fun," said Bose.u00a0 At the recently concluded 17th National Deaf athletics in Jamshedpur, Sunny won five medals and now a gold in Deaflympics is his prime target. "My aim is to win gold in Deaflympics," he signed off.
