All India Karate Federation president Karate R Thiagarajan has justified the non-selection of Sandhya Shetty in the national squad for next month's Asian Games
All India Karate Federation president Karate R Thiagarajan has justified the non-selection of Sandhya Shetty in the national squad for next month's Asian Games by saying Shetty did not win in a series of bouts against the girl whom Shetty said she was preferred to.
Shetty spoke about biased selection at a press conference in Mumbai yesterday. She stressed that the girl who got picked, lost all her bouts between them including the national championships bout in Chennai earlier
this year.
"There is no question of bias and favouritism. A special camp was held before the selection and during the selection process, Shetty won two, while her opponent had three victories," Thiagarajan told MiD DAY.
Confident
Shetty said, "I was confident that I would be selected for the Asian Games. I put my modelling career on hold and trained hard to represent my country." Shetty also stressed that the karate federation did not inform her of her dropping.
Meanwhile, Thiagarajan said that Shetty lost out to a karateka, who has graced the international stage last year.
