Lewis Hamilton admitted that it would be a tough ask to catch the Red Bull team after they dominated qualifying for Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix leaving the much-improved McLarens struggling to keep pace.
The 25-year-old Briton, world champion in 2008, was third fastest, a second behind Australian Mark Webber and German Sebastian Vettel in his heavily revised Mercedes-powered McLaren car.
"We knew they would be quick, but that is quite a decent gap!u00a0
"We will continue to push and focus on the areas where we know we are weakest."
Hamilton took comfort from McLaren's big improvement in qualifying behind the Red Bulls after struggling to break through to the first two rows of the grid earlier in the season.
"It is great to be up there. They are probably not as quick down the straights as we are."
