She may be the world's top tennis player and the winner of multiple Grand Slams but Serena Williams was left giggling like a schoolgirl when she talked about meeting Prince William recently.

She immediately lit up. "It was super cool -- Prince William was really dapper and suave. You know, he was just basically, shazam," she said with a laugh.

"I wasn't really nervous. He was my age. I kind of always wanted to meet him, so it was cool.

"I told him that I might like his little brother better because he's the little brother, and he laughed and said he might like Venus better because she's older."

Serena and sister Venus were on track for an all-Williams semi-final. Serena thrashed Carla Suarez Navarro 6-0, 6-3 and will now face local favourite Samantha Stosur, while Venus outlasted Australian Casey Dellacqua 6-1, 7-6 (7/4).

But judging by the way Serena saw off Suarez Navarro, the defending champion is still the one to beat for the title.

She raced to a 5-0 lead in just 15 minutes and although the Spaniard recovered and fought back, the world number one was always in control.
