Parag Madkaikar is an extraordinary case too. Returning from Delhi, he travelled without a reservation, shared a berth with a fellow cricketer and scored a hundred for New Hind in the 'A' division of the Strategen Dr H D Kanga Cricket League yesterday.
Madkaikar was an angry man before the match against Greater Mumbai Police SC at Matunga and the frustration of not making the cut in the Railways Ranji Trophy team was evident in his batting.
Madkaikar was in New Delhi for the Railways selection camp before reaching Mumbai just in time for the game.
"I was very frustrated not to make it to the Railways Ranji Trophy team. This is my way of sending out a message to the Railways," Madkaikar told MiD DAY.
Madkaikar and Prashant Naik (81 not out) stitched together 175 runs for the third wicket partnership, missing the Kanga League record by 25 runs. New Hind score 198 for two to which Greater Mumbai Police SC replied by managing 61 for seven at the close.
The 23-year-old, who was playing his first Kanga League match of the season, couldn't have expected a better start. He was in UK playing for the Hawkinge Cricket Club in Kent before the camp. "I had a good season there.
I was pretty confident about my (Railways) selection, but it's okay. I am now eyeing for a place in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side," he said.
