Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez slammed his side for a shambolic showing after they compromised their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage of the Champions League with a 2-0 loss to Fiorentina.

"If you want to win you have to score. We were not the best in any part of the pitch. We were giving the ball away all the time," he told Sky Sports.

"We didn't play well in the beginning, we had too many problems and made too many mistakes," he said.

"We weren't doing well, we had to change something and in the second half we were totally different, we played much better.

"In the first half they were on top of us all the time, we weren't doing the things we had talked about before.

We knew it would be difficult but we weren't doing well, we did badly in everything."
