American Scottie Scheffler over the moon after lifting Claret Jug; plays down comparisons with legendary Tiger Woods

Scottie Scheffler said his first taste of winning the British Open was a ‘special feeling’ after romping to his fourth major title by four shots at Royal Portrush on Sunday.
The World No. 1 shot to the top of the leaderboard during his second round on Friday and never looked back to finish on 17 under par.
“It’s a pretty special feeling. It was a tough battle, but I played some really good golf and I’m fortunate to be standing here holding the trophy,” Scheffler told Sky Sports.
Scheffler birdied three of his first five holes to snuff out any possibility that he would not convert his four-shot overnight lead into victory.
Tiger Woods
The four-time major winner also played down comparisons with golf legend Tiger Woods. “I still think they’re [comparisons with Woods] a bit silly. Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf. He was inspirational for me growing up,” said Scheffler.
Scheffler’s rise through the ranks
Playing style: Despite possessing an unusual swing — he shuffles his feet at the time of hitting the ball — he is known to be an exceptional ball striker. He utilises his knowledge of the course well, to minimise risk and conserve energy for a strong finish. His putting was considered a weak point earlier, but is now known to be one of the best on tour.
Titles won: Masters (2022, 2024), PGA Championship (2025), British Open (2025). He has also won 13 other titles on the PGA Tour along with an Olympic gold medal (2024)
