“It’s a pity that Vijender could not get a medal. We expected three to four medals in men’s boxing with Devendro being one of them,” Mary Kom told MiD DAY after the star performers were felicitated by Olympic Gold Quest at the Bombay Gymkhana yesterday.
Mary Kom made one thing clear that it is the luck factor that has a lot to do in clinching an Olympic medal. “Luck didn’t favour them. If Vijender had luck by side, he would have also won a medal. But I hope they will forget this and carry on with the same vigour to clinch a podium finish at Rio de Janeiro in 2016.”
Kumar also highlighted the luck factor that may have eluded his colleagues Bindra, Sodhi and Karmakar. “They are all champion shooters and on their day, they could have walked away with medals too. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but I am sure they tried their best,” Kumar said. He was not in favour of sending any message to his colleagues who couldn’t win medals. “Just because I have won a medal, that doesn’t mean I will start guiding great shooters like Bindra or Sodhi. Their day will come. Abhinav showed that in Beijing,” he said.u00a0
