If he has changed his mind, he is allowed to, but if there is no communication, you alone can decide to keep waiting or move on

I was in a relationship with a guy who had separated from his wife. We both knew what we were getting into, and I was okay with it because he was going to divorce her. The proceedings started to become too stressful for him though, until it got to a point where he said he couldn’t see me until the divorce came through. I thought it was a harsh decision, but I respected it because I didn’t know what he was going through. It has now been three months, and I haven’t heard from him. Should I assume he was lying, or that he has changed his mind and decided not to be with me?
The easiest way to resolve this is to message him and ask. If he wants you to wait for a while longer and can’t commit to any timeline that helps you cope, the decision is yours. You can then choose to walk away and pick this up at a later date, if and when he reaches out. Ultimately, there is nothing you can do because you both decided to take this step. If he has changed his mind, he is allowed to, but if there is no communication, you alone can decide to keep waiting or move on.
What is a legitimate reason for someone to end an engagement? My fiancé decided to break it off because he believed we had different approaches to life, but didn’t explain or specify what he meant. We only dated for six months before getting engaged, so it’s possible that he didn’t understand me well enough, but I am still hurt because I didn’t think there was any problem in our relationship.
You may not have seen it but if he has, irrespective of what his reasons are, you should accept it because there is obviously no future here. A lifelong commitment requires serious thought and if he believes it won’t work, there is no point trying to get a better explanation because it won’t really matter.
