About 15 people were injured when a Goa-bound tourist bus toppled over after its driver lost control
u00a0The incident occurred at 2 am on Sunday on the Mumbai-Goa highway near Poladpur. Police reached the spot within 30 minutes of the accident and rushed the injured to different hospitals.
One of the injured, Vinita Ghurav, said, “A little after we left a hotel on the way after dinner, the driver began driving rough, and even those who were sleeping woke up due to his rash driving. Suddenly he lost control and veered off in the opposite lane. Before we knew it the bus had already flipped twice and had fallen sideways on the road,” claimed Ghurav, who lives in Bhayandar. She and her son were going to meet relatives in Vaibhavwada.

Ghurav claimed that the driver and the cleaner locked the passengers inside the bus by latching the cabin door and ran away but the driver was later caught by the police.
The injured were initially taken to Poladpur Grameen Hospital at 3 am. Those who suffered extensive injuries were later brought to KEM Hospital in Parel.
Sushant Sawant, manager of Shree Kalbhairav Travels, said, “The first thing we needed to do was to make sure that the driver was not drunk. We conducted the necessary tests to confirm that and results show that he was not drunk.
The driver tried to dodge an animal that was in the middle of the road, and as a result, he swerved too much and lost control, leading to the accident. Our priority is making sure all passengers are given medical treatment. The bus itself was very new, hence the possibilities of faulty parts is out of the question.”
A police officer from the Poladpur police station said, “The driver is currently in custody of Mangaon police. A case has been filed against him.”u00a0
