Victim's torment ends after over 15 days with arrest of accused in Miraj, where he followed her
A 20-year-old woman's nightmare ended when an acquiantance who she said was stalking her after raping her twice was finally arrested on Friday, more than a fortnight after he had forced himself on her.

The victim broke down before her parents and narrated her harrowing experience to them, prompting the family to shift to Miraj, around 237 km from the city, in Sangli district. Emboldened by the flight of the family and the victim's silence on the issue, Sirswal, a resident of Kondhwa, went to Miraj on Friday and created a ruckus outside the house of the victim's relative. He also threatened to kill members of the family if they tried to register a complaint against him.
The accused was overpowered by the family and neighbours and handed over to the Miraj police. The case was subsequently transferred to the Wanawadi police as the victim lived in the jurisdiction of Wanawadi police station.
Police Sub-Inspector S D Mane, who is investigating the case, said, "The accused was produced in court and remanded in police custody for four days. According to complainant, it started on April 25 when the victim was alone at home. When somebody knocked at the door, the victim opened the door thinking that it was her mother. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused barged in and raped her at knife-point."
