Actor says she was released as she cried bitterly; accused is notorious for blackmailing young girls

Drama surrounding yesterday's alleged kidnap of actor Deepak Tijori's daughter played out into the wee hours of Monday morning.

Tijori's wife had filed a missing persons complaint when their 13-year-old daughter Samara had gone 'missing' yesterday afternoon and failed to return her mother's calls. She, however, did return home around 8 pm.

"My daughter is fortunate to have returned home. She pleaded with this man and the man thankfully let her go. I, however, appeal to all to help the police and me find this lowlife and teach him a lesson," said Tijori, who said Samara had no knowledge of the identity of her kidnapper.

What happened

The girl was allegedly forcefully pulled in an auto- rickshaw at Lokhandwala market by the assailant at 4 pm yesterday and taken to a hotel in Malad.

After she returned home, Tijori, accompanied by his relative, actor Kunika Lal, and other friends went to the Mantra Residency resort in Malad where they questioned the staff. "The place is an illegal set up and I don't understand how they could have let a man and a crying girl book a room. We have requested the police to look into the matter," said Tijori.

'Tijori beat us'

Staff at the hotel, however, says that Tijori and his friends had roughed up its workers without an explanation. "They kicked and slapped us, when we too had no clue of what had happened with the girl," waiter Jaiprakash Shetty told MiD DAY outside Malvani police station where they had gone to lodge a complaint.

The Oshiwara police have filed a case of kidnap against an unknown assailant. ACP Dilip Suryavanshi said search for the accused was on.
