The trio didn't know that they were robbing a constable.
They stabbed the victim in the chest, puncturing his heart and he fell dead on the spot. The accused then searched the deceased's clothes and were shocked to find that they had killed a cop," the DCP said. The case was cracked with the help of an eyewitness. On October 15, the deceased, constable Harkesh Meena, was returning home when he was killed. Special police teams were pressed into service to crack the case.
In plain sight
"The witness was riding a motorcycle when he saw the trio stabbing the constable. He described one of the accused perfectly. He gave the statement that the victim resisted the robbery attempt. He identified Rudramani as one of the culprits," said the police official. After a massive search, Rudarmani was arrested from near Azadpur fruit market. During interrogation, he broke down and confessed to his crime. Through him, the police got to know about his associates, who were on the run.
"Sunil was arrested from Bhalswa area, while Kumar was nabbed from Samaipur Badli area. Both had planned to flee along with their families when they were caught by the police," said the official. "Rudramani disclosed that he was in need of money as his brother was getting married next month, while Sunil needed money to pay his rent. Therefore, they planned to rob someone, which ended with them murdering the constable," Chaudhury added.
