Sideways
Two unlikely friends u00e2u0080u0094 has-been actor Jack and a frustrated first-time novelist Miles u00e2u0080u0094 set off on a wine-tasting road trip only to veer sideways into the comedic trail of double-dates, hope, sex and the enduring war between Pinot and Cabernet. Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh plays Stephanie, Jack's intended "last fling" before he gets married. The film won her ex-husband director Alexander Payne, the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Darjeeling limited
Painkillers, pepper spray and cough syrup veer off-course the "spiritual quest" of three estranged brothers. They are Americans on a train journey across India to a monastery where their mother is hiding as a nun. But fate puts them in the middle of the desert with eleven suitcases, a printer, and a laminating machine. And a new journey begins, with timeless background music from Satyajit Ray's films and vintage Kinks.

The motorcycle diaries
Brazillian director Walter Salles doesn't preach. He makes you think and feel what iconic rebel leader Che Guevara did on a road trip in his young, pre-revolutionary phase. Gael Garcia Bernal plays a vulnerable Che setting off to circumnavigate the continent on a leaky bike with pal Alberto Granado. The mesmerising South American landscape is the real star. A must for all fans of Che, motorbikes and rough-outers.

Fear and loathing in las vegas
Journalist Hunter S Thompson's psychotropic masterpiece of "gonzo" journalism is perfect material for one zonked-out cult film. Johnny Depp looks unbelievable as Thompson's balding alter ego Raoul Duke, who shifts gears from writing to business to psychedelics on a "trip" to Las Vegas. Even more unbelievable is Benicio Del Toro as his flabby sidekick Dr Gonzo, Duke and Gonzo. They set off on a furious ride through nonstop neon, surreal surroundings and a crew of the craziest characters ever.
