Police say accused had been planning to kill his son for a long time
Gruesome, brutal, shocking - these are the words that come to mind. A six-year-old boy was beaten to death with an iron rod in posh Safdarjung Enclave on Sunday afternoon. The accused is the victim's father, who was arrested later in the evening.
The motive behind the incident is not clear but a according to a police source an illicit relationship may have triggered the killing.
Yesterday afternoon, Rajiti, the deceased's mother, had gone to the neighbourhood for some work, while her son Arpit and husband Bhupender were at home.
"When she returned, she was shocked to see blood stains all over the floor. She called out to her husband and son but no one answered. She ran upstairs and found Arpit lying dead soaked in blood. She then called up at her maternal home. Her family members then made a call to PCR about the incident," said a senior police officer.
The officer said that Arpit studied in class I at a nearby private school. He also emphasised that Bhupender had planned to kill Arpit a long while back.
"The accused also has a daughter Tanya. He often used to pick up arguments with his wife Rajita and would beat up the whole family. The exact reason behind the family feud is yet to be ascertained," he said.
Young Witness |
A six-year-old girl, who allegedly saw her mother being murdered two years ago, was summoned by a Delhi court as a witness. Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau recorded the version of the girl child as a court witness even though the case had reached the culmination stage, saying that all evidence has to be considered for just conclusion of the matter. The decision of the court is significant as the probe agency did not make the child a witness even though her version was recorded before a magistrate a couple of months after the incident. The incident took place in Bindapur, Delhi on April 16, 2008.u00a0 |
