A Brand new start

Till some time back, funnyman Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry were effusively proclaiming their love for each other, but now after 14-months of marriage, the couple has decided to part ways. CS does a recap of their short-lived romance:

>> September 2009: Russell and Katy began dating after they hit it off while preparing for an awards function. "From the first date, I changed," Brand wrote in his book, My Booky Wook 2. "No more women. Well, actually, thousands of women. I wake up to a different one each day, they're all her. ... She chose me, bottled me and cuffed me. And now this is my life, my girl, this beautiful woman."

>> December 2009: The couple got engaged during a vacation in India.

>> September 2010: Katy celebrated her bachelorette party in Las Vegas.

>> October 2010: Russell and Katy wed at the Ranthambore National Park in India.

>> February 2011: Katy shared a video from her wedding ceremony at the Grammys while she performed a medley of songs, including one she wrote for Russell, 'Not Like the Movies.' The singer later told a magazine that she showed the clips "because I felt the moment was right and not forced. Russell and I had time to savour our moment privately first and then share it with people when we were ready, and not for a paycheck. I loved the idea, because I thought it was beautiful and artistically accompanied the song I wrote for him. Plus, it was Valentine's eve!"  During that month, a magazine ran a story claiming the couple was in counseling and fighting to save their marriage.

>> July 2011: A magazine reported that the two were living separate lives and sources feared "the marriage may not last a year." Perry denied the report, tweeting, "Just cause we don't flaunt our relationship doesn't mean there's something wrong with it. Privacy is our luxury."

>> November 2011: A magazine reported that Brand was 'getting cosy' with a female friend, adding that 'a split is inevitable for the newlyweds.'

>> December 2011: Russell appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he announced that his marriage to Perry was 'OK. I'm married to Katy perpetually. 'Until death do us part' was the pledge. I'm still alive.' Later that month, reports surfaced that the two spent Christmas apart.

>> On December 30, Russell announced the couple's plans to divorce.
