Quirky can be fun. We have received a bunch of notifications about things that restaurants, pubs, stores and online portals are doing to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
There were also some who wanted to be different and promote the ‘special day of love’ by throwing a singles-only bash, where you could walk in for a drink with your ‘bro’. One that stood out was a staging of a version of Shakespeare’s love saga, Romeo and Juliet.
A still from the play
Directed by Akriti Singh and presented by the theatre group, Storia Senza Storia, the plot will be based on the premise that the iconic couple survive their fate in Verona and meet every decade till they are 70. “We felt love needed some hope. Romeo and Juliet, the symbols of pure, innocent love, have been dying every time the play has been performed.
So, we decided to add a dash of Pop culture and infuse fresh romance into the tale. We ask: What if Romeo and Juliet didn’t die?” shares Shah. The play includes live music and will be performed on a terrace that will be decked up for the occasion. A mushy Shakespearean twist for Mumbaikars, no?
