Acason, Turner to defend titles in Delhi

Melbourne 2006 gold medallists Deborah Acason and Ben Turner highlight a 15-strong Australian weightlifting team named on Friday to compete at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games in October.


Acason (nee Lovely), 27, who also won silver at the 2002 Manchester Games, will be chasing her second gold medal in the 75+kg category in India.


Turner, 26, will also defend his Commonwealth Games title in Delhi, but this time in the 77kg class, moving up from the 69kg category.


Also in the medal hunt will be Corran Hocking, who won silver and bronze in Manchester, and Melbourne silver medallist Damon Kelly, both men competing in the 105+kg class.

Kelly was the only Australian male weightlifter at the 2008 Olympic Games, finishing ninth in Beijing.


Australia - Women: Vivian Lee (48kg), Erika Yamasaki (53kg), Seen Lee (58kg), Belinda van Tienen (69kg), Amanda Phillips (75kg), Jenna Myers (75kg), Deborah Acason (75+kg)

Men: Vannara Be (62kg), Daniel Koum (62kg), Francois Etoundi (69kg), Ben Turner (77kg), Simplice Ribouem (94kg), Rob Galsworthy (105kg), Damon Kelly (105+kg), Corran Hocking (105+kg).
