The third seed needed only 46 minutes to ease past South Korean Kim Hyo Min 21-15, 21-15 in their first career meeting.
Meanwhile, the women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa went down 10-21, 13-21 to top seeds Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei. In the men’s singles event, HS Prannoy lost his men’s singles second round to local shuttler Rajiv Ouseph. In a battle that lasted an hour and 12 minutes, Ouseph won 17-21, 21-19, 21-18.
