"Between driving his taxi back home in Port Elizabeth, Isaac always made time to follow the cricket career of his son," South Africa team's media officer Michael Owen-Smith told MiD DAY.

Alviro, the 29-year-old coloured player, hails from the same part of Eastern Cape as Ashwell Prince.

"His dad's modest income as a cabbie was naturally not enough to have a comfortable living and support his cricket. Alviro is a product of the normal cricket structure set-up by Cricket South Africa after the democratic government came in power in South Africa," informed the media officer.

Isaac did what was in his means and would regularly drop his son and his friends for cricket training.

Over the moon
Alviro, who was associated in a dazzling 209-run partnership with Hashim Amla, showed no signs of nerves and scored runs at a rapid pace. He scored 16 four and reached his hundred off 160 balls. "To get a century on your Test debut and at a fantastic venue like Eden Gardens, I am feeling over the moon," said Alviro.
