Antaheen - Movies Reviews

What's it about: A story about love and relationships set against the backdrop of technology, the film revolves around Abhik Choudhury (Bose) and his tryst with finding true love. After a few failed relationships, Abhik uses the internet to chat with a female who he doesn't even feel inclined to meet.

Along the way he has to deal with his single aunt (Tagore) and his first cousin Ranjan (Kalyan Roy) seperating from his wife. In due course, he meets Brinda Ray Menon (Apte) a young investigative journalist. Sooner or later, Abhik has to choose between his annonymous internet friend and Brinda.

What's hot: The most convincing and natural performance comes from Radhika Apte. She is truly a breath of fresh air and compliments to Rahul Bose in most of the scenes. Their chemistry is not forced and artificial. Of all the characters these two are definitely the most relateable. Both Aparna Sen and Sharmila Tagore give sincere performances expected from actors of their calibre.

What's not: Roy Chowdhury's characters are somewhat neither here not there. They seem to be stuck at times in a parallel universe unaware of what's happening around them. There are times when you feel like the characters aren't going anywhere, while other times they are over powering and caricaturish.

Definitely, consistency in plot is a weak point in Antaheen. The pace especially in the second half slackens and lacks the much needed tempo the take the story to a meaningful end.

What to do: An honest attempt to sketch various shades of love in today's time, the film could have been much better with a sharper script and good editing.
