The accused, Wahid Hussain alias Babu Topi Abdul Hassan Sheikh, had been arrested with his accomplice in May, after police received a tip-off from the informer, Sabar Allahbaksh Khan. Police said this was Sheikh’s second attempt to extract revenge against Khan from the time he was out on bail, and this time he wanted to kill the informer with a single bullet.

According to sources from Meghwadi police station, Sheikh is a history- sheeter and has several cases against him. In May, Khan had given information to the Crime Branch about illegal supply of arms. Based on his tip-off, Sheikh and his accomplice were arrested; they later got out on bail.

After Sheikh came out of jail, he found out that it was Khan who had given the information to the police that had led to his arrest. He decided to take revenge, and a week later, he attacked Khan with a sickle in Meghwadi. However, Khan managed to escape, but was severely injured and taken to the hospital.

Meghwadi police had registered a case of attempt to murder, after which Sheikh absconded to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh. With the help of a friend, Mushtak, Sheikh managed to bring a local-made pistol and one live round to Mumbai in the beginning of September.

During interrogation, Sheikh admitted that he wanted to kill Khan with a single bullet. However, the Crime Branch received information that the accused was back in the city and he was arrested on Saturday from a hotel in Jogeshwari. He is currently under Meghwadi police’s custody and the search for his arms supplier, Mushtak, is currently ongoing.
