Dalbir Singh was apparently placed under the ban between April and May 2012, which was reversed by General Bikram Singh's after VK Singh's retirement. It was implemented after Gen Dalbir Singh as then General Officer Commanding of the Dimapur-based 3 Corps, allegedly failed to "command and control" his troops during an operation carried out in Jorhat, Assam.

Dalbir Singh filed the affidavit in response to Lt Gen (retd) Ravi Dastane for his allegations of alleged favouritism in Dalbir Singh’s selection as Army Commander, making him next in line to succeed General Bikram Singh.

According to news reports, Dalbir Singh claims in his affidavit that he was sabotaged by VK Singh “with mysterious design” and “malafide intent.” He also accused the former army chief of trying to stall his promotion “with mysterious design, malafide intent and to arbitrarily punish” him for “extraneous reasons”.

Amid the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley, Indian Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh on Wednesday reviewed the security situation in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir along with senior commanders, a defence statement said.
