Yours, mine and ours

No role is too small. Who knows that better than Triptii Dimri, her brief part in Animal (2023) having changed her career overnight? The blockbuster’s success brought her many things, including a wider audience and the ‘national crush’ label. Last month, Karan Johar announced his next production, Bad Newz, starring Vicky Kaushal, Dimri and Ammy Virk. While the posters released in March showed Dimri sporting a baby bump, mid-day has now learnt that director Anand Tiwari’s comedy revolves around the rare medical condition, heteropaternal superfecundation.  A source tells us that like director Raj Mehta’s Good Newwz (2019), its spiritual sequel too has pregnancy as the central conflict. “While Good Newwz was about accidental sperm swap, Bad Newz is based on a medical condition called heteropaternal superfecundation, where a woman gets pregnant with twins from different men. The film is based on a true incident,” the source says. The film was announced in March In the comedy, the actor will be seen romancing both Kaushal and Virk. More importantly, her character marks a stark departure from her submissive role in Animal. It’s also her first light-hearted part after back-to-back intense portrayals of an ill-fated lover in Laila Majnu (2018), a woman seeking revenge in Bulbbul (2020), and a singer battling depression in Qala (2022). “Triptii will be seen as a mainstream leading lady for the first time. Like Dharma heroines, she plays today’s woman, an ambitious chef, who can go to any lengths to further her career,” adds the source.  It’s evident that Dimri is consciously steering towards mainstream cinema this year. The actor has the horror comedy, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 with Kartik Aaryan, and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video opposite Rajkummar Rao in the pipeline. That, however, doesn’t mean she has bid adieu to intense stories. The actor, along with Siddhant Chaturvedi, will front Johar’s yet-untitled romantic drama, helmed by Shazia Iqbal. From what we hear, it’s a profound love story set against the backdrop of the caste system. “The film is a remake of the Tamil hit, Pariyerum Perumal [2018]. It is currently in post-production. The makers are contemplating titling it Dhadak 2, as a spiritual sequel to Janhvi Kapoor-Ishaan Khatter’s Dhadak [2018], which explored class difference.”

Have you heard? New jodi on screen

Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson and Abhishek Bachchan’s nephew Agastya Nanda is not the only actor to make his big-screen debut with Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis. Rumours are rife that Akshay Kumar’s niece Simar Bhatia is foraying into the movies with the biopic on Param Vir Chakra awardee, Arun Khetarpal. Contrary to the popular notion that her superstar mama could have easily facilitated a tailor-made launch-pad, Simar reportedly bagged her maiden movie strictly on merit. She has apparently shot her portions for the film that also showcases the protagonist’s relationship with his father, Brigadier ML Khetarpal, essayed by Dharmendra. The makers are planning to release Ikkis on February 10 next year.  Ticket to Hollywood In a recent interview with an international publication, Katrina Kaif shared that a Hollywood project is not only inevitable, but it will also mark an important milestone in her career. The Merry Christmas actor revealed that she had received an offer from Hollywood, but things didn’t materialise. Asserting that she believes it will happen, Kat stated, “I think that will be a whole new leaf in my book, so to speak, and really exciting.” Recalling her foray into acting with the Telugu film, Malliswari (2004), she said that she has always put the audiences first and ensured that translated with her choices throughout her career. Kat concluded, saying, “Now, I think it’s about finding a balance, what story do I feel is going to connect with the audience? And what do I connect to personally and as an actor right now? What’s going to give me growth? What’s going to give me satisfaction? This is just exactly what I want to be doing right now.” Outside the comfort zone  Taapsee Pannu has become synonymous with heroine-centric subjects, showcasing her versatility and depth as an actor. “I like to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone. This way, each day on set is an exciting adventure,” she said recently. Sharing that she enjoys the process of getting to live so many lives, Taapsee added, “I get to view things from another character’s perspective. I like seeing that story as an output on screen. I enjoy the fact that we’ve been able to create a world from only words and pure imagination.”  Sodhi missing!  Gurucharan Singh, best known for playing Sodhi in the sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltaah Chashmah, has reportedly gone missing. Actor-producer and chairperson of the Indian Film and Television Producers Council (TV and Web) JD Majithia shared that he got the news from a common family friend, Bhakti Soni. “She called to say that there was no sign of Gurucharan after he failed to arrive in Mumbai from Delhi on April 22. Later, we found out that he hadn’t boarded the flight,” JD said. A missing persons complaint has been registered with a south west Delhi police station. JD added, “We request the authorities to undertake a search for him.”  Trouble in paradise Rumour has it that all is not well between Shruti Haasan and beau Santanu Hazarika. The actor and the doodle artiste-illustrator, who were living-in together for the past three years, are said to have broken up. They have been living apart for about a month now. That Shruti and Santanu have also unfollowed each other on social media seems to further indicate their split. Moreover, the Salaar actor has removed their pictures together from her account, and even taken a break from social media. Announcing her return online, she wrote, “It’s been a crazy ride, learning so much about myself and about people.” Incidentally, in January this year, the duo dismissed rumours of a secret wedding, maintaining that they would never hide the news. On the work front, Shruti has Salaar Part 2 with Prabhas and Toxic with Yash.  The other Thackeray In a landscape where lineage often dictates career trajectories, Aaishvary Thackeray stands out for his unique choices. Unlike cousin Aaditya, who embraced their family’s legacy, Aaishvary has chosen to pursue a career in movies. He spent over five years striving to establish himself in his chosen field, starting his journey as an assistant on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani (2015). Since then, he has been refining his skills. Industry insiders have praised him as a talent with potential to leave a lasting impact. According to a source, “Assisting on multiple movies over the years, Aaishvary has learnt the ropes of every department of filmmaking. He is immensely passionate about films, dance and music. Considering that he has earned praise from those he has worked with, don’t be surprised if we see some big announcements about Aaishvary’s projects.”  Property gains Priyanka Chopra Jonas is not only building her real-estate portfolio, but making sure she gets returns too. She recently rented out the family bungalow, located in the plush Koregaon Park in Pune. Along with mother Madhu Chopra and brother Siddharth, the Citadel actor has leased out the property for a rent of R2.06 lakh per month with a security deposit of R6 lakh. The ground floor of the sprawling bungalow measures 2,180 sq ft, with a basement of 950 sq ft, a garden of 2,232 sq ft and a parking lot of 400 sq ft. Priyanka is presently working on the action-comedy, Heads of State, and has The Bluff lined up.

Malaika replied, "That too, it's not a very attractive mannerism but they're just like your dad." "You're a very fair person, and your dad has the same trait, which is being very just in the sense that he never goes overboard about things. He is very clear about certain things, and that trait you have," she continued. Malaika Arora concluded, "And at the same time, you can also be extremely indecisive, just like him, which is my least favourite. You can't decide on the colour of your shirt, you can't decide what you want to eat, you can't decide what time you should wake up."
