Two speeding motorists in their 20s died early on Monday near the Bandra Worli sea link. They were also riding without helmets.

The incident took place around 12.30am. Akshay Korade, 24, and Shaukat Mugal, 22, were riding a friend’s Honda Dio bike. Korade took it for a spin with Mugal, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The police said the rider lost control, crashed into the U-bridge railing near Bandra reclamation and fell off the bridge.

An officer from the Bandra police station told HT, "The accident could have been averted if they were driving at a normal speed. But they were speeding. They were taking a right turn when they hit the railing and thrown off the bridge."

The officer said the bikers' heads were smashed in from the impact. "They were taken to Bhabha Hospital, but declared brought dead. This is the second such incident this year."

The police found a mobile phone and a few hundred rupees. Even though, the youngsters did not seem drunk, their blood samples were taken.

Incidentally, the accident took place at a time when the Bandra police and traffic division were conducting a drive against rash driving nearby.
