The BSP chief cannot do an Obama in India and her support to the newly-launched Third Front is an eyewash, say readers

Under the present political circumstances Mayawati cannot do an Obama in India. She may have to expand her political space before she aspires to occupy the prime minister's gaddi.

The Third Front with little all-India presence and mutually repulsive regional straps can hardly prop her up to the seat only because she is a Dalit. There is also no converging view or consensus on the PM candidate.

The Left parties are only attempting to use the Third Front to consolidate their votes in a bid to teach the Congress a lesson for not toeing their line with respect to the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The constituents of the Third Front will jettison the cause of Mayawati once the elections are over.

Mayawati must, therefore, endeavour to consolidate her support base and bide her time to become the first Dalit PM rather than jump into the bandwagon of the Third Front, cobbled up merely with an ad hoc purpose to meet the immediate political challenges before the upcomingu00a0 general elections.u00a0

Power hungry

BSP chief Mayawati has asked the newly-launched Third Front to declare her as the prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Mayawati probably wants to emulate US President Barack Obama by becoming the first Dalit prime minister of India. But the BSP chief has nothing in common with the prolific American president.

For starters, Mayawati's political career is riddled with controversy. She is power hungry and if she is at the helm of the nation's affairs, she will exploit her power for her own benefit.

Mayawati is manipulative and is certainly not capable of representing the world's largest democracy.

She has made it quite clear that her membership to the Third Front will not be at the cost of her aspirations to become the PM.

But Mayawati can continue to dream. She may be popular, but will never manage to win the hearts of the Indian voters.

The Indian voters can no longer be lured by false promises and are set to make a difference in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.u00a0u00a0u00a0
