Two unknown persons robbed jewellery worth Rs 2 crore from a courier in Vile Parle.

Late last morning, Sanjay Saini was on his way back to the courier service's office in an auto rickshaw after receiving the parcel from Mumbai airport, when two unknown bikers came swooping in on him and snatched the bag.

The incident occurred around 11 am, when Saini had gone to the domestic airport to receive the bag, which
had come in from Delhi.

After taking the delivery, he hired a rickshaw back to Ashok Courier, his work place.

According to him, that is when two unidentified men on a bike came rushing in, barged in the rickshaw, grabbed the bag, and sped away.

The duo had weapons with which they overpowered Saini. After snatching the bag from him, they escaped from the crime scene. Saini immediately reported the incident to his office, which contacted the police.

Cops then took down Saini's statement. They are questioning Saini to establish if he has any involvement in the robbery, particularly because no one knew the contents of the bag he was carrying.

"We are checking CCTV cameras installed in the area for any clues. It was not raining at the time of the robbery so the clarity of the footage might help us.

Witnesses are also being questioned. We are investigating whether Saini has any role in the crime, as no one knew that he was carrying jewellery in the bag," said a police officer.

"The courier boy was taking the jewellery to his office. He was robbed on the way by two unknown persons on a bike.

We have taken down Saini's statement," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VIII) Satyanarayan Choudhary.
