For second successive time, decides to field a weak opponent against Mumbai Congress prez for Assembly polls
Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh is a heavyweight in his party and commands respect. But he seems to have a way with the opposition as well.
For the October Assembly elections, the BJP has almost ensured victory for Kripashankar from the Kalina constituency by fielding a relative lightweight Ashok Singh.
This is the second time the BJP is fielding a weak opponent against Kripashankar. The Congress leader has won the last two elections from Kalina.

According to sources, BJP had then decided to deny Abhiram a ticket on the insistence of a top BJP leader who had close relations with Kripashankar.

That same BJP leader is said to have played a crucial role this time in choosing Ashok. "Kripashankar will have it easy, as Ashok does not have much of a base in the constituency.

But the BJP did not have an option, given the fact that the party had no other credible candidate who had worked in the constituency," said a BJP leader.
Ashok said, "I don't know whether I am the candidate for this constituency."
