Leaders of Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party were suspended from Delhi Assembly for three days on Thursday, as they continued to disrupt proceedings for the third consecutive day. The MLAs were demanding a discussion on CAG report related to the alleged irregularities in certain CWG projects, implemented by the Delhi government.

Conch to protest
The BJP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition V K Malhotra, were asked to leave the House, when they met for the second time, following a 30-minute break. The adjournment was forced by the Opposition members, who also blew a conch to register their protest. As soon as the House assembled, Malhotra demanded a discussion on CAG report, and questioned why Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit was allowed to make a suo motu statement on allegations of corruption on Tuesday, when BJP MLAs were asked to leave on "seeking to discuss the findings of the auditor".

He also argued Dikshit's remarks that he, as vice-chairman of CWG Organising Committee, was "as responsible as Suresh Kalmadi" for the irregularities. The senior BJP leader said his name has not been taken by any probe committee. "I was not involved in any decision making, while the CM was part of the GoM that monitored the progress of Games-related projects. Even Sandip Dikshit was a member of some committees," he told the House.
Walk to the Well
When the Speaker did not pay any attention to his demands, all BJP MLAs walked in to the Well and started raising slogans against the Congress. Then the proceedings were adjourned for half-an-hour. The situation did not change when the House met later, as BJP MLAs once again went into the Well and blew a conch to demand a discussion on the CAG report.
Amid the chaos, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the Opposition MLAs must be removed from the House, and the Speaker following accepted the proposal. "They have been suspended for three days," the Speaker said.
The Monsoon session of the Assembly will end on Monday. On Tuesday too, the Opposition MLAs were asked to leave the House when they created a ruckus on the same demand. Later, Lovelycriticised the MLAs for their behaviour and said the House should also "condemn their ruckus."
'Respect the House'
"We must respect the glorious tradition of this House. We cannot blow conch, raise slogans and throw pamphlets. The attitude of the BJP MLAs was against democratic norms," he said. BJP has also moved a privilege motion against Dikshit, claiming she should not have made a statement in the House.
Two Congress MLAs then moved a privilege motion against Malhotra for creating the ruckus, saying according to the Assembly rules, no MLA can shout slogans and bring banners and posters into the House. After eviction of BJP MLAs, several Congress MLAs came down hard on the government for increasing water charges.
