The accused, identified as Aman Khan, was known to the girl and had lured her to his native place. After she arrived there, he called up her parents and demanded a ransom to set her free.

The 23-year-old girl was, however, unaware that her friend was asking money from her parents and only got to know of his intentions after she was rescued. According to the police, Khan used to work at a construction site in Dombivli, which was located next to a grocery shop owned by the father of the victim.

It was here that he came in contact with the girl, and the two entered in a relationship. Four months ago, Khan left the city for his hometown, but kept in touch with the girl.

On February 13, on the pretext of collecting her voter’s identity card, the girl left home but did not return. Her parents then registered a missing complaint with the Manpada police station.

Valentine’s Day surprise
A police officer from Manpada police station said, “The girl reached Uttar Pradesh on February 14. On the same day, Khan called up her parents and demanded Rs 8 lakh as ransom after which the girl’s parents reported the matter to us.”

“The girl wasn’t aware that her boyfriend had telephoned her parents, asking for a ransom. The accused had kept her in a closed mill where she ate and slept,” said the police officer.

Meanwhile, the accused continued to call her parents from February 14 to 17 from different mobile numbers. Cops started tracking the calls and his mobile was finally traced to a district in Uttar Pradesh.

“On February 17, we got to know of the location of the two and a police team was dispatched. The girl was rescued on February 22 and was brought to the city on February 24.

After she was rescued, she was informed that the accused had called up her parents threatening to kill her if his demand wasn’t met,” added the police officer.

The accused has been booked under section 364A (kidnapping for ransom) of the Indian Penal Code and has been remanded in police custody.
