In a bizarre incident involving the Delhi Commonwealth Games, British track and field athlete Mark Lewis-Francis' shoes were stolen while performing at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The incident took place when Lewis-Francis left his trainers in a kit basket at the start line, and switched to spikes for the opening round of his 100 metres campaign on Wednesday.

According to the Sun, when the 28-year-old went back to collect his stuff, he discovered that his footwear was missing.

Lewis-Francis, silver medallist at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, clocked a season's best 10.15sec to win his opening heat and recorded a second-round victory in 10.20sec.

In another 100 metres heat, some athletes did not hear a false start and reached the finishing line before being told to go back and start again.
