Experts attached to the forensic department told MiD DAY that most of the deceased in the Pune blast had deep burn injuries, and not splinter injuries.
A forensic expert, who visited the scene of the crime, said the explosives used in German Bakery were not mixed with nails or ball bearings, which were used in earlier terror strikes.
This is also evident from the fact that the body of Gokul, the waiter who opened the bag of explosives, was completely charred, but not a single splinter wound was spotted on him. "We have collected the samples, which have been sent to the forensics laboratory in Kalina for further analysis," said an expert.

Explaining why Gokul escaped splinter wounds, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad expert said, "It clearly shows that the velocity of the explosion was toward the ground, which left a huge crater on the floor. The impact of the blast was towards Gokul's direction."
Added Krishnamurthy, "Whenever an explosion occurs, the temperature reaches about 2,500 Degrees Celciusu00a0and anything within close vicinity will burn immediately."
The splinter injuries that some of the victims have suffered are from the objects at the bakery, which worked as secondary missiles.
3 bodies unclaimed
Three bodies still remain unclaimed in Pune's Sassoon Hospital mortuary, two days after the blast.
The bodies include two females and Gokul. Out of the 18 injured brought to Sassoon, only four are still being treated. Medical superintendent Dr P S Pawar,u00a0 said, "Those admitted are in the age group of 19 to 61 years, and one injured had to undergo minor surgery yesterday."
