Following the molestation of a four-year-old in a school bus in Juhu last week, safety in school buses has become a hot topic. And in an attempt to ensure better safety for children, the transport department will conduct a school bus safety workshop on January 28 to which principals of South Mumbai schools and members from their Parent Teachers Associations (PTA) have been invited.
The South Mumbai education department sent a circular to principals of all schools, including ICSE, CBSE, IB and IGSE schools, making it mandatory for them to attend the safety workshop at the transport department office in Tardeo on January 28 at 11.30 am. In addition to principals, the education department has asked that members from the PTAs also attend the workshop. B Mane, education inspector, South Mumbai confirming the news, said, “Principals and PTA members from all schools have been called. The workshop will take place on January 28 at 11.30 am at the transport department, Tardeo.”
Sabina Zaveri, principal of Anjuman Islam High School and convener of South Mumbai schools, said, “We have all been called for the workshop on January 28. If the workshop is conducted by an expert from the transport department, it will definitely benefit many schools.” On the other hand, the school bus owners’ association has said that all schools should ensure that there is a female attendant hired by the school aboard the bus.
