Chain snatcher nabbed after stolen bike skids

In an ironic twist, a stolen bike helped nab a notorious chain snatcher near Andheri station. A duo of snatchers made an attempt to rob a lady near the Station Road, and in the process of trying to flee, lost balance of the bike. The rider managed to flee, but the pillion rider was pinned under the bike and dragged for a distance of 15 metres.

Newspaper vendors near-by nabbed the snatcher and handed him over to the police. It turned out that the bike that was used to commit the crime was stolen on Saturday from BKC area.

The accused has been identified as Dheeraj Kanojia (22), a resident of Bharat Nagar in Bandra. According to API Manish Avle, D N Nagar police station, “The victim, a 25-year-old woman, a resident of Borivli, had come to Andheri to seek some ayurvedic treatment for kidney stone. She reached the clinic at 5 am and finished her treatment by 6 am. She was walking towards the railway station, when the incident occurred at 6.30 am opposite Paaneri showroom.”

Avle said that while snatching the chain, the rider lost control over the bike, and the vehicle skidded.

Investigations revealed that both the accused are history-sheeters and have cases registered against them at several police stations between Bandra and Andheri, their key operational area. They had stolen the Pulsar 220 motorcycle from BKC on Saturday, which they used to execute yesterday’s crime. The police said the Kanojia is a tailor by profession and is passionate about bikes. They added that before executing their plan, the duo had kept vigil on the police movement in the area.u00a0
